Dining Room Light Fixtures: It’s Not Rocket Science

Found the perfect chandelier or pendant to hang over your dining table, but not sure where to place it? Fear not! There’s some very simple rules to follow when hanging light fixtures over dining tables. I promise you won’t even need a calculator……(or maybe you do if your math skills are anything like mine).

To avoid bumping your noggin on your precious new light, make sure the light fixture has a diameter at least 1 foot less than the width of your table.

Two is better than one! Well that is not always true with lighting over your dining table, but if you have the room for it, why not? Pendants should always be centered over your table, unless you are doing two of course.
Now here comes the simple math part. I promise it’s not that tough!
-The bottom of your fixture should have between 30-34 inches between it and the top of your table. This rule of thumb rings true for hanging lights over kitchen tables and islands too!
-If your ceiling is higher than the standard 8 feet (ooh fancy) you will want to add about 3 inches to the hanging height per foot.

Test time! So if your ceiling height is 12 feet high your fixture should be hung 42-46 off the table!

See that wasn’t that hard! Woah woah wee woah!
Until next time….
